East European strategy continued

MATERNA, specialist for information and communications technology, now has a majority share in the Romanian company Best IT Solutions, Bucharest. This shows the company’s continuing strategy to invest in the Eastern European market and to grow with it. MATERNA now has locations in Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. A branch in Slovenia is currently being planned. “Integrating and extending the business in these locations is of the highest priority at the moment, but if good opportunities arise, we do not rule out more purchases in other Eastern European countries”, managing director Dr. Winfried Materna explains their aims.

MATERNA has taken over 75 percent of Best IT Solutions. The remaining 25 percent are still held by the former Romanian owner and founder Alin Bittel. In future the company in Romania, which currently employs a staff of eight, will go by the name of MATERNA Information & Communications.

Best IT Solutions has been active on the Romanian IT market since 2004 and has made a name for itself with IT decision-makers because of its high level of technological skill. The customers are from public authorities and agencies, as well as from the telecommunications and banking sectors. Above all, being part of the MATERNA group will give the IT specialists better access to large companies.

Best IT Solutions is a service provider for the individual design and implementation of IT service management solutions – one of MATERNA’s core business fields. In Europe MATERNA is one of the leading IT service providers in this strongly growing market which requires high levels of consulting input.

Applying IT service management solutions enables organisations to operate their IT infrastructure professionally and ensures the availability of IT-supported business processes. Best IT Solutions is a partner of the software manufacturer BMC Software with which MATERNA also has very strong links.

IT market Romania

The IT market in Romania has an annual growth rate in double figures. According to the market research company IDC, IT services will expand by an average of 17 percent by 2009, or according to Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC) by as much as 30 percent. PAC states that the most important topics in the Romanian IT market are business applications and specific solutions, and above all ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and sector solutions for energy suppliers, trade and banks. In addition to these, universal databases, business intelligence, customer specific software developments within the framework of publicly funded IT projects and IT security also play significant roles.
