IT service provider MATERNA Information & Communications, Dortmund, Germany, and ePocket Solutions AS from Oslo, Norway, have formed a partnership. As part of this partnership, MATERNA will distribute ePocket’s Handyman™ product, expanding their range of services for the implementation of field service management solutions. Handyman is a mobile standard solution for the processing of service jobs with mobile devices such as PDAs and laptops.
Handyman optimises the productivity of service technicians
Handyman allows service technicians to receive and update detailed information about new work orders and administer labour times, expenses and spare parts used. In addition, mobile technicians can update their spare parts lists and order missing parts from wholesalers or warehouses. Handyman also features a checklist editor that generates customer-specific checklists and service protocols quickly and conveniently and guides technicians through their repair and maintenance jobs. Once a job is completed, the customer can confirm this immediately on the mobile device.
A standardised XML interface allows users to link the mobile solution to ERP or service management systems. Integrations for more than ten different systems are already available, including the BMC Software IT service management solution, Remedy, ERP solutions such as Microsoft Dynamics AX (formerly MBS Axapta) and Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly MBS Navision), and the Microsoft Biz Talk EAI server. Integrations for the SAP XI middleware component and the IBM Tivoli IT service management solution are scheduled to follow this year.
Handyman allows service technicians to work more productively. If the solution is connected for example to an ERP system, data are forwarded for invoicing. Back office processes also benefit from this system as time-consuming service reports on paper are no longer required.
Every other electrician uses Handyman

Experience gained from projects in Norway has shown that this kind of solution pays off within twelve months, even for companies employing less than 20 technicians.
